How to Clean Your Makeup Brushes

Over the past few years I have tested out almost every technique and fancy device to get the most squeaky clean brushes. Well I have done the hard work for you and have finally discovered THE GREATEST way to clean your makeup brushes. The real game changer here is my new found love which the best brush cleaner I have ever used in my life. It is the Daiso “Detergent for Puff and Sponge.”image
This stuff is liquid magic for your brushes. I have tried basically everything from homemade olive oil and detergent concoctions to high end options such as the MAC brush cleaner but this is a clear stand out. It really gets every last bit of colour and dirt from out of the brushes without leaving any scent or residue.
I must admit because I have so many makeup brushes that some of them tend to go a while without being washed because I will just switch it up and use another one when one gets too dirty. My filthy brushes that have had at least 3 weeks for the foundation to settle in the bristles are the perfect candidate for this post. This is what they look like before being washed:
My tried and tested technique to wash these brushes is to firstly wet the bristles with warm water. Then I squeeze a pea sized amount of the daiso brush detergent into the brush.image
Then I gently lather the soap into the bristles by rubbing it using up and down motions onto my hand with the glove.

Once I have scrubbed the brush I rinse it with some more warm running water and voila! – squeaky clean brushes

    Hey! I usually use the extremely overpriced Beauty Blender Cleanser Solid, which works really well. It is a small amount for the price tag, but it does the job really well. I’m always open to trying new cleansers. Where did you buy this? Amazon?

      Hey babe, I actually like this a little more as it gets every single bit of product out of the bristles AND Its a whole lot cheaper! I bought it from the actual store called “Daiso” it’s kind of a Japanese dollar store, I’m not sure if you have one near you, if not just search on either eBay or Amazon and I’m sure you’ll find it xx

    This is so helpful! I’m always put off buying brushes bexause I’m always put off cleaning them- mainly because have always been unsure if I’m damaging the brush and actually getting rid of the germs. Difficult keeping them clean if you don’t have a spare bag for them to! This makes me feel better haha x

      I’m glad you found it helpful! I can assure you that by using this technique you’ll be getting every last bit of product and bacteria out of the brushes. Also, some of the brushes displayed in my demonstration pics are almost 4 years old and they are still in perfect condition, no damage to the bristles xx

    Hmmm I should give this a try! I’ve been trying a few from Sephora. Cleaning brushes is such a chore on the weekend! I wish they have a brush cleaning machine…hehe great post!
